State Constitutions

A state constitution is the statement of basic principles and highest laws of a state.

Every state constitution reflects the diverse elements of its constituency, representing a microcosm of its people, traditions and political cultures. It is the document in which the citizens of the state set forth their basic rights, and the structure and operation of their government. I must be in accord with the national constitution.

A republic (from Latin res publica 'public affair') is a form of government in which "supreme power is held by the people and their elected representatives".[1] In republics, the country is considered a "public matter", not the private concern or property of the rulers.
